How it works?

If you have had acupuncture before, then it is most likely that you have had it on a one-to-one basis with the practitioner in a private room.

Acorn Community Acupuncture clinic has a very different way of providing the treatments. You will find the treatment room is a very quiet space with a number of couches and chairs. You will be treated alongside other patients in the same room. This is the normal way for acupuncture treatments to be conducted in China and elsewhere in the Far East, and is becoming increasingly common across the UK, Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Your First Visit

When you arrive for your first appointment you will be met by one of our receptionists who will help you with the intake process and give you a copy of our Welcome Letter. The intake process involves completing 3 forms: a Registration Form, a Health History Questionnaire, and an Intake and Consent Form. You will also be asked to read the Operating Guidelines your Acorn Community Acupuncture clinic. We ask you to complete these forms so that we can keep the intake process as brief as necessary, thus helping to keep the costs down.

You will also be asked to pay for your treatment and confirm your next appointment booking. We like to do these tasks before your treatment so that you can leave the clinic after your treatment feeling nice and relaxed and without having to worry about such things.

Your acupuncturist will then spend a few minutes discussing very quietly with you why you have come for a treatment before he then guides you to a couch or a chair and begins your treatment.

Follow-on Visits

When you come back for subsequent treatments you will be very familiar with the clinic setting and the way we operate.
After you have paid your fee and booked your next appointment, you can make your own way quietly to site and prepare for your treatment, having the greatest respect for those that are already being treated in the room.

Your practitioner will speak quietly with you to get an update on how you have been since your last visit before he commences the treatment.

How many visits?

This is one of the most often asked questions: "If I have acupuncture, how many sessions will I need?" And there is no clear answer because it all depends on a number of factors, such as how long you have had the problem, how severe it is and perhaps most importantly how you as an individual respond to acupuncture treatments.

Your acupuncturist will discuss with you his approach for treating you (your Treatment Plan) and will try to give you his best 'guesstimate' on the number of treatments you may require. But you should be prepared to commit to come along for a number of sessions, which is why we are operating your Acorn Community Acupuncture as a low-cost clinic.

How much?

We are operating your Acorn Community Acupuncture clinic as a 'Social Business' - we aren't trying to make large profits from treating you, because we don't believe that is how healthcare should be provided.

But we have to be able to operate as a business, so we need to cover our costs and pay a reasonable hourly rate for the services of your highly trained professional acupuncturists and other employed staff. But we will also seek to keep costs down by using volunteer resources wherever possible. So we have set the fee at just £10-£20 for each treatment session.

There aren't any concession rates because we believe that this is a reasonable fee, and we will not be asking for any proof of income. Clearly, if you want to pay more because you have valued your treatment and you want to help us grow your Acorn Community Acupuncture clinic, then that would be most appreciated.
